Contagious Having the flu is a miserable experience. Symptoms include aches, fever, sore throat, runny nose, headache, cough, chills, fatigue, nausea, and possibly vomiting and/or diarrhea. Although there are vaccines available for the flu, no single vaccine protects against all flu strains. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, "Three kinds of flu viruses commonly circulate among people today: influenza A (H1N1) viruses, influenza A (H3N2) viruses, and influenza B viruses." For some reason the vaccine provided for the 2014/2015 season does not match the dominant strain that is going around and so the vaccination is not likely to provide people with the protection they were hoping for. So, the best people can do at this point is to avoid contact with germs by staying away from sick people and by washing their hands after coming into contact with surfaces touched by others. Additionally, eating a balanced diet and staying properly hydrated will also help. It's important to stay home if you are sick since you don't want to risk spreading germs and exposing others to the flu. Remember that the flu is highly contagious and that makes you dangerous when you are infected! |
