Hillbilly Elegy
(Life In An Idyllic Mountain Cabin)

Life in an idyllic mountain cabin might not be all that it's cracked up to be and although some people claim to have fond memories of simpler times, it is quite likely that the simple times weren't all that simple. That's not to say that it was all bad, but there was plenty of dysfunctionality back in the good ole days. As for J.D. Vance's book called "Hillbilly Elegy" it is the case that he is quite open about the dysfunctionality and so he deserves some credit for acknowledging that although based on everything I've seen the book isn't worth reading even if you can pick up a free copy somewhere. If you're going to read something read one of my books!!! (See the BOOKS link at the top of this page!)

Lyrics:

We lived in a little stone cabin
In the mountains, surrounded by pines
We survived on squirrels and little rodents
Or anything else that we could find

It was a dismal life fueled by
Papa's work and momma's love
And when they got mad she'd hit him with a spoon
And he'd hit her with the back of his glove

My siblings and I now live in the city
But the memories of the cabin haunt us still
Eating roots, seeds, bugs, birds, and berries
And anything else that we could kill
