Never Surrender
"If" is a poem by Rudyard Kipling. I recall reciting it when I was in fifth
grade. Parts of the poem have stuck with me since that time. The poem begins
with these lines:
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
The entire poem defines various aspects of a mature outlook on life, but
certain lines are especially apothegmatic.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Although it certainly is the case that Trump is not a great president, it is
also the case that he is no worse than Obama, Clinton, or any other recent
president. Yet he has been subjected to ridiculous legal attacks lacking
substance. In fact, the term "lawfare" has been used in reference to these
desperate acts to sideline him. "Stochastic violence" is a term used to
justify acts taken against Trump and yet his attackers are just as guilty as
him of "demonizing their enemies." Ultimately, an attack against
Trump is an attack against free speech, but
more interestingly those attacking Trump seem to suffer from an array of
mental dysfunctions best characterized as Trump Derangement Syndrome with
Russophobia being an undeniable component of the syndrome.
