A Whole Lotta Wood Although theoretically it's possible to save a lot of money by heating a house with wood, it's not as inexpensive as you might think, even if you cut and split all the wood yourself. First of all, if you're going to cut wood you need a saw. More likely than not you'll want a chainsaw and that's a pretty expensive item. Next you'll need an axe, along with gloves, eye protection, a sharpening stone, and don't forget replacement chains and oil for your chainsaw. Also your house must be equipped with a wood-burning stove or a fireplace. The chimney pipe above the stove or fireplace must be cleaned every year and to do that you'll either have to purchase more equipment or pay someone to do it for you. An estimate of the annual cost of all this is difficult to determine since it's hard to say how long equipment will last. So, even if you live in a place where burning wood is permitted and where there is a forest where you are allowed to gather wood, heating your house with wood is not necessarily easy or cheap, but it might save you from the task of paying a monthly gas bill which has got to be worth something! |

To heat my house
I've got two wood-burning stoves and
Needless to say that |
