There's Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Season's Greetings, Happy New Year, and maybe a few others. However, the point is that there are many perfectly acceptable ways of wishing others a merry holiday season. For some reason expressing holiday greetings during the weeks leading up to Christmas has become a tradition unmatched in regards to any other holiday during the year. Although sometimes people will say Happy Halloween, Happy Thanksgiving, or Happy Valentine's Day, none of these greetings are nearly as common as Christmas greetings. At least this is true in the USA. The other interesting thing is that all these holidays are during the time between Fall Equinox and Spring Equinox. Possibly there is more need for festivities during the portion of the year with the longest nights.
