Translating Number Sentences
We can translate division number sentences into word sentences with the same basic meaning in a lot of ways. Here are some examples:
| NUMBER SENTENCE | WORD SENTENCE |

| 8 / 2 = 4 | Half of eight equals four. |
| 14 / 2 = 7 | Fourteen can be split into two sets of seven. |
| 24 / 3 = 8 | Twenty-four divided by three equals eight. |
| 30 / 5 = 6 | A board 30 inches longs can be cut into 5 equal pieces which are each 6 inches long. |
One way of rewording a division question is like this:
63 / 9 = How many sets of 9 are there in 63?The next set of practice problems uses this form.
