Lesson One hundred thirty-eight: Word Story Problems

Here are two more word story problems where the answer is the remainder of a division problem. 

      Joe harvested 133 eggs today and he packaged
      them into cartons containing 30 eggs each. How
      many extra eggs did Joe have today?

      SOLUTION:
   
        Divide: 133 / 30 = 4 r13
        ANSWER: 13




      Edna did a total of 108 pushups. If Edna
      did 30 pushups in each set except for her
      last set, then how many did she do in
      her last set?

      SOLUTION:
   
        Divide: 108 / 30 = 3 r18
        ANSWER: 18
